Nike Dunk Low Stripes

Who would have thought that this eye-catching sneaker design would someday be the main issue of a legal proceeding? That day has finally come after Nike was slapped with a lawsuit by Eddie Van Halen for using the striped pattern copyrighted to him.

The striped pattern in question is the pattern found at the looked similar to the pattern used in he midsole of the Nike Dunk Low sneakers. Van Halen claims the black, red and white striped design was the same one used in his Frankenstein guitar. Nike however disagrees saying they have not referenced Van Halen’s name or even his image in association with the shoes.

Van Halen however believes otherwise and he has asked Nike to recall all the Nike Dunk Low Stripes and give up all profits made from the sneaker. The lawsuit may also be related to the marketability of Van Halen’s signature sneaker with the same pattern on the upper through FEA Merchandising.

The Nike Dunk Low Stripes is an all black low sneaker with white laces and black Nike shoes. It is however accented by the red, white and black stripe design on the midsole. Nike maintains that Van Halen has no cause of action since they have not infringed on any rights being held by Halen.
